Alabama Charter Boat Fishing
Falling for Alabama's Gulf Coast Hook, Line and Sinker Fishing in Orange Beach always proves to be one of the most popular things to do on Alabama's Gulf Coast. Whether it is angling in one of the 15 tournaments from June through September or in the month-long rodeo in October, there is fun for everyone. Even when no tournaments are being held, visitors can charter boats from one of the many marinas in Orange Beach. The Alabama deep sea fishing charter fleet has over 100 powerful boats available for charter, each equipped with electronic fish-finding and navigation devices and operated by a licensed captain. The creation of more than 200 artificial reefs off the Alabama Gulf Coast has provided homes for fish, therefore creating joy for anglers. Charters may be booked for half-day or full-day, or up to three-day trips, and most boats will accommodate from 6 to 35 people. "Party boats" are also available on which visitors may join in the fishing fun for a per-person price, with other fishermen. Inshore fishing trips can take you into the protected waters of the bays and bayous for catches of specs, white trout, sheepshead and reds. Once out in the deep water, the abundance of fish makes angling adventures exciting as well as successful. Fishing the reefs off the Alabama Coast, many species are caught year-round. From May to December, anglers try their luck with the great sport fish: tuna, barracuda, wahoo, bull dolphin, sailfish, mackerel, shark and the true challenge--blue and white marlin. Marlins weighing up to 700 pounds are not uncommon 31 miles off shore near the continental shelf. Alabama's Gulf Coast boasts marlin fishing comparable to that found almost anywhere in the world.
Freshwater fishing is also popular in the Gulf Coast area. The Bon Secour River, 700-acre freshwater Lake Shelby and 395,000 acres of rivers, inlets and coves, anglers have a host of fishing holes from which to catch the big ones. These waters are full of speckled trout, black and striped bass, bream and red drum. Public launching facilities are available at various locations on the island. Visitors should also check into Alabama's fishing laws--a license is a must.
