codes we note below.
Ft. Walton Beach (Airport Code VPS)
Destin and the Emerald Coast are primarily served by the Okaloosa
Regional Airport for commercial flights by major airlines. The airport itself is located
aprox. 18 miles N.W. of Destin near the city of Valparisio. The airlines refer to the area
as Ft. Walton Beach, but it is more simple to use the airport code VPS
when making online reservations. The airport is 12 miles from Ft. Walton Beach, 16 miles
from Navarre, and 18 miles from Destin.
Pensacola (Airport Code PNS)
Pensacola Regional Airport is approximately 50 miles west of
Destin.
Panama City (Airport Code PFN)
Bay County International Airport is approximately 50 miles east
of Destin.
Destin, Florida Airport - General Aviation (KDTS)
Located less than two miles from the beach, and with Ft.
Walton/Elgin serving military and commercial flights only, KDTS is the only full-service
commerical airport serving the area stretching from Navarre to Sandestin and South Walton.
Even if you don't fly (or at least don't have your own plane), you can rent a pilot and
plane by the hour (when available, call ahead) and tour the area from the air.
Car Rental:
The above airports are served by most all major car rental
agencies. Click to
search for the lowest rates, and use the airport code of the airport you will be
flying into.
Driving In:
Florida's Emerald Coast is a popular and short "drive
in" destination for people in the Southeast and a reasonable drive from the Midwest
and other areas. Because of it's location in Florida, you save 1/2 day each way compared
to other Florida areas farther south (not to mention often lower room rates and a nicer
quality of beach).
Destin,
Florida - With its brilliant white quartz sand and warm gulf
waves, Destin and Fort Walton Beach lures visitors with plenty of recreational
opportunities, fresh seafood dining, and reasonably priced lodging. Part of northwest
Florida's less crowded Emerald Coast, it is conveniently located between Pensacola and
Panama City.
