Beautiful Beaches. The beaches of Northwest Florida's
"Emerald Coast" consistently are voted among the best in the world because of
the beautiful sugar-white sands and tropical emerald green waters.
No visa required. No worries with foreign countries and their police. Panama
City Beach and the Emerald Coast are in the good ole' U.S.A.!
Cheaper and easier to get here. Florida's Emerald Coast in in the Northwest
part of Florida, a full half-day's drive closer than other regions of Florida. Because it
receives commercial air service from a number of major airlines, there is no need to ride
aboard a cramped charter service on old, beat up planes like some spring break spots.

To get you off on the right foot, here are our "inside tips" to
make the most of your Panama City Beach Spring Break:
 | First things first -- follow the hotel rules. If they
say that the person reserving the room needs to be a certain age, be that age. Don't get
your older friend or parent to book if they won't be in the room, or lie about the amount
of people who will occupy the room. They have seen it all before, they know how to catch
you, and when they do they are allowed to toss you out and keep all of your money.
|
 | Book your room well ahead of time. The early bird does
get the worm, and finds better rates and more availability. Grab your friends, pool your
cash, and book that room! However, if you ended up putting it off, try our hotel
search and you still might get lucky.
|
 | Try to stay in Panama City Beach and not in Panama City
if possible. There is only one bridge over to Panama City Beach. Even during normal times,
traffic backs up. If you are close to the party, you don't lose valuable spring break time
sitting in traffic to go across the bridge. However, a little wait is better than not
being there, and beside ... you are off of school and in Florida!
|
 | Don't overlook Destin (FL), Pensacola Beach
(FL), or Gulf Shores
(AL). They all share the same beautiful Gulf of Mexico beach that this area is famous for,
and have flocks of spring breakers sunning all day and partying all night. The entire area
is filled with "Panama City Beach Area" spring break party action!
|
 | Driving In -- Obey the speed limit on the way down.
You'll be going through small towns that wait all year to fill their coffers with
outrageous speeding fines during spring break. (It should go without saying not to drink
and drive unless you want to "enjoy" your spring break in the Mayberry, U.S.A
jail). And for fines, they often demand that you pay the fine on the spot. There goes your
party money.
|
 | Flying In -- Panama City, FL airport is served by a
number of major airlines. Unfortunately, demand makes the flights expensive and crowded
during spring break.
Here's the good news: Two other airports are within a very reasonable driving distance of
Panama City Beach:
- Ft. Walton Beach, Florida (airport code VPS). Only a
little over an hour (a beautiful 60 mile drive) west of Panama City Beach, this also lets
you approach the area from the west right to Panama City Beach. (It's going to take you
30-60 minutes to get from the Panama City airport to your hotel during spring break). From
Ft. Walton Beach airport (VPS): Turn left (south) out of the airport onto Florida Route
85. Route 85 ends 12 miles later at U.S. 98. Make a left (east) and follow U.S. 98 all the
way into Panama City Beach.
- Pensacola, FL (airport code PNS). With most airline
service to this region, you also approach Panama City Beach from the west. The downside is
that you are looking at a two hour drive (although very scenic). Head south from the
airport 5 miles to the Pensacola Bay Bridge and stay on U.S. 98 (east) all the way to
Panama City Beach.
To shop for your best fare, use our Low
Fare Finder and experiment with all three airports: Panama City, FL (airport code
PFN), Ft. Walton Beach, FL (airport code VPS), and Pensacola, FL (airport code PNS). Do
the same with our Low
Rate Car Rental engine.
